紙屋作左ヱ門　〜紙漉き職人のぬくもり伝わる逸品たち〜

月山と朝日連峰が美しく見える自然の中の工房で、
一枚一枚手漉きで仕上げた和紙（月山和紙）と
和紙製小物の製造・販売をしています。
その他、新築・リフォーム・リノベで使用される
和紙をオーダーメイドでお作りしております。

We manufacture and sell handmade Japanese paper（Gassan Washi）and small items made of Japanese paper in a workshop in nature where you can see Mt. Gassan and the Asahi mountain range beautifully.
In addition, we make custom-made Japanese paper used for new construction, remodeling, and renovation.

Profile

和紙職人

シブヤナオ

大阪府出身。
臨床検査技師を経て、長年の夢であった和紙修業の道に入るべく京都伝統工芸大学校・和紙工芸専攻に入学。卒業後、京都府綾部市の黒谷和紙で九年間の修業を積む。
二〇一七年、月山和紙の第一人者・三浦氏と再会、西川町の「大井沢自然と匠館」を拠点に和紙職人として独立。屋号は、父方の屋号を借りた「紙屋作左ヱ門」。
主に和紙小物の製造・販売、近年は和紙を使った施工なども行っている。

Washi Craftsman

Nao Shibuya

Born in Osaka.
After working as a clinical laboratory technician, he enrolled in the Kyoto Traditional Crafts College, Department of Washi Crafts, in order to enter his long-cherished dream of training in Japanese paper. After graduating, he trained at Kurotani Washi in Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture for nine years.
In 2017, he reunited with Mr. Miura, a leading expert of Gassan Washi, and became independent as a Japanese paper craftsman based in the "Oisawa Nature and Crafts Museum" in Nishikawa Town. His shop name is "Paper shop Sakuzaemon", which borrowed his paternal name.
He mainly manufactures and sells small washi paper, and in recent years he also does construction using washi.

Works

12月頃、畑で育てた楮（こうぞ）の木を切ります。（※翌年同じ根から、また枝が伸びます）
Around December, cut down the Kozo trees grown up in the fields.（*Branches will grow again from the same roots the following year.）

楮（こうぞ）の原木を釜の中に入れ、皮をとりやすくするため蒸します。
Put the logs in a kettle and steam it to make it easier to remove the skin.

熱いうちに皮をはぎ、皮と芯に分けます。皮の部分が紙の原料となります。
Peel off the skin while it is hot and separate it into a skin and a core. The skin is the raw material for paper.

表皮とキズを丁寧に削り取り、白皮（しろかわ）にします。
Carefully scrape off the epidermis and scratch to make white skin.

ソーダ灰などのアルカリ溶液で不純物をできるだけ溶かし出します。
Dissolve impurities as much as possible with an alkaline solution such as soda ash.

水に浸しながら1枚ずつ広げ、原料に残っている小さなゴミやキズを取り除きます。この作業は、白い紙を作る上で重要となります。
Spread one by one while soaking in water to remove small dust and flaws remaining on the raw material. This process is critical to the production of white paper.

餅つきのように楮（こうぞ）を叩いて繊維をほぐします。
Hit the kozo（paper mulberry） like pounding rice cakes to loosen the fibers.

叩いて繊維をほぐした楮の繊維です。
It is a mulberry fiber that is beaten to loosen the fiber.

水と叩いた楮（こうぞ）をビーターに入れ、どろどろの綿状の材料にします。
Put water and beaten kozo（paper mulberry） in a beater to make a sludgy cotton-like material.

漉き舟（すきぶね）に水・材料・そして「トロロアオイ」と根から出てくる粘液（ねんえき）「ねり」を入れ、簀桁（すげた）で漉（す）きます。
Put water, materials, and "Abelmoschus manihot" and the mucus "Neri" that comes out of the roots in a sukibune, and squeeze it with a girder.

漉き上げた紙を圧搾機にかけ、水分を搾りとります。
Put the squeezed paper on a squeezer to squeeze out the water.

天日乾燥、あるいは熱乾燥機で紙を乾かします。
Dry the paper in the sun or in a heat dryer.
